CYP was founded in 1998 as Charlottesville Young Professionals (CYP) by a few area professionals with the support of some large corporations determined to attract and retain young professionals to the area. CYP's mission was to attract and unite a group of active, civic-minded professionals who have a clear vision of Charlottesville's future as a great place to live, work, and play. In 2015 CYP's Board of Directors decided it was time to change the group's name to better reflect the group's membership. Thus Charlottesville Social Professionals (CSP) was born! Though the majority of our membership falls in the mid 20s to mid 40s bracket, CYP has no definitive age group. Our members represent a vast array of the area's workforce, including the arts, architecture, engineering, finance, marketing, manufacturing, the trades, law, medicine, media, non-profits, and government (that's just a few of them!). We've occasionally considered a contest for the "CYP member with the most unusual employment" and we have some really good contenders - no matter what your employment, you'll be comfortable within this group. CSP's mission is to attract and unite a group of active, civic-minded professionals who have a clear vision of Charlottesville's future as a great place to live, work, and play.
Over the course of its existence CSP was involved in numerous civic projects to benefit the community. CSP sponsored a scholarship that was awarded to a student who attended Piedmont Virginia Community College. In 2012, CSP joined forces with the Central and Western Virginia Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association to put on Blondes versus Brunettes – A Charity Powderpuff Football game. In recent years CSP has donated items and money to the American Cancer Society, Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, and the Sexual Assault Resource Agency (SARA). Thanks to the City of Charlottesville's Department of Social Services, CYP was able to make a local family's holiday brighter in 2014.
A Board of Directors, composed of volunteers, leads our organization. Each board member serves a one-year term. CSP's Board of Directors is dedicated to helping the organization grow and to foster an inclusive environment for all individuals who attend events. If you want more information about CSP feel free to contact our president at firstname.lastname@example.org. Attend a couple of our events so that you can see what CSP is offering before you commit to joining. CSP membership is $30 for the year (September 1st – August 31St of the following year). Just let us know you're coming, and we'll make sure you're introduced and included!
